Power of attorney: information you need
For a lawyer to represent you before Turkish courts, enforcement offices and public authorities, you need to issue a power of attorney (vekâletname) in the lawyer's name. In Türkiye this is done at any notary (noter); abroad, at a Turkish consulate or embassy. You do not need to be in Antalya.
Lawyer details to give the notary
- Lawyer
- Av. Mehmet Yasin Şahinkaya
- Bar
- Antalya Bar Association (Antalya Barosu)
- Registration no
- 10865
- Office address
- Orta Mahallesi 1335 Sokak No:15 B Blok Daire:2, Serik / Antalya, Türkiye
If the notary asks for further details about the lawyer, please call +90 530 654 83 42.
At a notary in Türkiye
- Passport (or Turkish residence permit with your foreign identity number).
- Turkish tax number: notaries usually ask foreigners for a tax identification number (vergi numarası); it can be obtained at a tax office, often on the same day.
- Translator: if you do not speak Turkish, the notary carries out the procedure with a sworn translator; the notary can arrange one.
- Some notaries ask for passport photos; bringing two is advisable.
Ask for a general power of attorney for litigation and enforcement (genel dava ve icra vekâletnamesi) in favour of the lawyer above. If the case concerns divorce, settlement or collecting money on your behalf, mention this so that the necessary express powers are included.
From abroad
- Turkish consulate or embassy: a power of attorney issued at a Turkish consulate is used in Türkiye like one issued by a Turkish notary. Contact the consulate in advance; many work by appointment.
- Foreign notary: a power of attorney issued by a notary in another country generally needs an apostille (for countries party to the Hague Apostille Convention) and a Turkish translation certified by a Turkish notary before it can be used.
Please contact the office before you go, so that the text and powers can be agreed in advance.
After issuing it
Send a scanned copy by e-mail first; the original can then be sent by courier. The lawyer submits it to the court or enforcement file and can then follow your case electronically through the Turkish judicial system (UYAP). You can revoke a power of attorney at any time through a notary.
